Reverend who works with new Ottawa immigrants receives City Builder Award

Rev. Joseph Kiirya is the latest recipient of the Mayor’s City Builder Award, given to him for his tireless community and outreach work with new immigrants in Ottawa.

Mayor Jim Watson and Knoxdale-Merivale Coun. Keith Elgi presented Kiirya the award last Wednesday at city hall.

Kiirya, a St. Paul University graduate, is the founder of the River Jordan Ministry in Nepean, which describes itself as a non-denominational, cross-cultural and multi-generational ministry. This year, River Jordan is celebrating a decade of offering “a home away from home” to immigrants in Ottawa, an endeavour Kiirya has been actively involved in.
